Peace

Quick ink study of a flying peace dove in gold fleck watercolor over Chinese inks on cotton paper. Using bold quick strokes keeps the art fresh and adds movement. Quick studies help an artist stay loose and sharpens up technique, which is more important than capturing details.

Teaser Billboard

Helena Portrait

My favorite technique is Chinese inks on very high quality cotton Xuan paper, using bold strokes and quality sumi brushes. I feel the watercolors have the most beautiful tones I've ever seen in person. Once a color is painted on xuan paper it has a fantastic rich transparent quality, a similar look to marble or stone.
