My favorite technique is Chinese inks on very high quality cotton Xuan paper, using bold strokes and thick quality sumi brushes. I feel the colors of this watercolor and ink style has the highest most beautiful coloring I’ve ever seen in person. Once a color is painted on paper it has a fantastic rich transparent quality to the color, a close look to marble or translucent stone. It’s difficult to stop a painting like this because when I see the tones and coloring I want to continue. But it’s best to leave space and let a painting breathe.
